About America 250
#Our Mission
There are anniversaries the world remembers — and there are anniversaries that ask the world to remember itself. The 250th year of the American Republic is the second kind.
Two and a half centuries ago, a fragile experiment in self-government began with words: that all are created equal, that liberty is unalienable, that government draws its legitimacy from the consent of the governed. Those words have outlived their authors, their wars, their crises, and the doubts of every generation that has followed.
America 250 was built on a simple conviction — that an anniversary this large should belong to everyone. Not only to the institutions that mark it, but to the individuals who carry the story forward.
Our mission is to create a living digital monument to two hundred and fifty years of American history. Assembled not from the top down, but coordinate by coordinate, story by story, by anyone who wishes to inscribe their place in it.
#The Project
Every Hex on the America 250 map is a small, sovereign place — a single coordinate among thousands, each one holding a story written by the person who chose it.
When you choose a Hex, you inscribe yourself into the commemorative record of the nation's 250th year. You tell your story. Your family's story. The story of a soldier you never met. The story of a town that no longer exists on a map but still exists in someone's memory. The story of why this country, this idea, this republic still matters two and a half centuries on.
A Hex is more than a point on a map. It is a small piece of a much larger thing — a quarter-millennium tapestry being woven, one inscription at a time, by everyone who chooses to take part.
#What You Receive
When you acquire a Hex, you receive:
- Your coordinate on the map — yours alone, permanent within the Service.
- Story publication rights — the freedom to inscribe and share your story for visitors of the Service to read.
- A digital commemorative certificate — individually issued, bearing your name and a QR code that links directly to your inscription, so the story you wrote can always be found.
- A place in something larger than yourself — a contribution to a collective record of the American 250th year, alongside thousands of other voices.
#An Independent Project
America 250 is an independent commemorative project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the United States Government, the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission, america250.org, or any other governmental or official initiative.
The opinions, stories, and historical material presented on the Service represent the voices of independent contributors — not the positions of any government or official commemorative body.
